What the app does
Clipboard Guru keeps a local history of text and screenshots you copy on your Mac. AI Insights and the remote companion are optional.
Data we store on your Mac
- Clipboard history (text and screenshots you copy), up to the limit you set
- OCR text extracted on-device from screenshots, used as the listing label
- Settings (max clips, AI context, insights toggle)
- A random user identifier (UUID) used to open your companion URL and for analytics
Text history stays in macOS UserDefaults. Screenshot files stay in the app’s Application Support folder on your computer.
Data we send over the network
Only if you enable AI Insights:
- The copied text, or a screenshot plus on-device OCR of that image
- Optional AI context you typed in Settings
- Your UUID
- Whether Mac notifications are enabled
Destination: https://www.clipboard.guru/api/handleClipboardContent
Analytics (always, without clipboard contents):
- Event names such as app launch, restore item, save settings
- Content length (not the text)
- UUID as Google Analytics client id
Destination: Google Analytics Measurement Protocol (google-analytics.com)
Subscriptions (if you subscribe in the Mac app):
- Apple processes the payment through the Mac App Store.
- We receive the signed App Store transaction so clipboard.guru can apply your monthly credit quota. We do not collect card numbers.
We do not sell personal data. We do not use the clipboard contents for advertising.
Companion
The companion page https://clipboard.guru/ai/{uuid} shows insights for that UUID. Anyone with the URL can view those insights. Treat the URL as a secret.
Retention
Local history is under your control (Clear Clipboard History). Server-side insight logs follow the website retention policy. Request deletion at contact@clipboard.guru.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
